Paul Amitai

Biography

Paul Amitai is a media artist whose projects have been exhibited at Scope New York, Art Chicago, St. Louis University Museum of Art, Soap Factory, Milwaukee Art Museum, Vidi Festi (Spain) and Manchester Exchange Square. Amitai also performs electronic and improvised music in clubs and alternative spaces around the U.S. As both a solo performer and a member of various bands, Amitai has shared the stage with a diverse range of musicians, including Run-DMC, The Skatalites, Califone, and Crooked Fingers.

In addition to work as a practicing artist, Amitai has written on electronic arts and culture for New Art Examiner, Signal to Noise, and MTV Online. Amitai was also a critic and columnist for the Shepherd Express and the A&E editor for Milwaukee edition of The Onion. He has also curated film screenings at the Haggerty Museum of Art, Marquette University and created the New York Festival of Electronic Composers and Improvisers at the Knitting Factory in 2000. Amitai is currently the exhibitions and public programs coordinator at Eyebeam, an art & technology center in New York, where he produces an A/V performance series called MIXER.
